- Shorty Cantlon Driving for Stark Hickey Ford, Elgin National Auto Race Stock Cars, August 1933 - Born in Illinois, William "Shorty" Cantlon made 11 starts in the Indianapolis 500, earning his personal-best second-place finish during his inaugural outing in 1930. He did most of his competitive driving on dirt tracks, though he also made several land speed record attempts. Cantlon was killed in a crash at the 1947 Indy 500.
